Where I’ve been? Coming Home, Travel Blues and Starting a Business

I’ve been very quiet the past few months. Not only here on my blog, but across all my social media profiles too. Life feels like it’s moving a million miles an hour and I’ve hardly had a chance to stop to fit in an update.  I’ve even stopped editing my travel vlogs as I just can’t find the time. The Simple Travel Co.

All in all, I’m not sure if I’ll ever get around to truly starting blogging back up again at all – but more about that in a second. First I’ll actually give you an update. Unless you follow me on social media, you won’t know that we’re back in the UK. We’ve actually been back since the end of May this year.

It’s been nice to be home, and I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had the chance to miss Australia. Whether it’s been catching up with friends and family or working my butt off to pay off my travel debts and start saving again, it’s been a crazy five months.

The craziest thing is – I’ve started a business. You may know, that I never ended up getting a job that wasn’t farm work while we were in Australia, and all throughout my working life I’ve really struggled getting a job. I got good grades in school, I’ve now got a degree, and the jobs I have had I always tried to work as hard as I could. Maybe I have a rubbish CV, but I’m certainly not lucky when it comes to finding a job.

I didn’t ever want to be in that situation again. As soon as I got back to the UK, I started working for my Mum. She has a vintage shop in York (Bowler Vintage if anyone is curious). But I knew that I couldn’t work there forever. I had to do something about it. So I started my business – The Simple Travel Co.

Obviously, I love travel. Another thing I love is shopping. Whenever we were on the move I would constantly be thinking about what would make my trip easier? How could I keep my bags organised? How could I still look stylish? That last question was my main inspiration. If you’ve ever looked for travel accessories then you will know how bland and boring they are. To be totally honest – they are all designed for men. That’s right! When do you ever see cute packing cubes or a girly patterned document holder? And when you do, they’re always insanely expensive.

I had the idea of creating a brand that catered for women travellers. I know they’re out there! Heck, my Instagram feed is full of them. But where were the products for us? I just couldn’t find them. So that is when The Simple Travel Co. was born.

It’s still a work in process, and some other obstacles in life have temporarily stopped our catalog of products from growing, but we hope that by the Summer of next year there will be a full range of travel accessories available in a ton of different styles catering for all tastes. For now you can shop our current collection here.

I’d love to hear what you think! Be sure to let me know in the comments.
