I’ve been thinking a lot lately about where I want to take my blog and how I would like to go about growing my YouTube channel in the New Year. There’s a number of things I would like to achieve in 2018, not just in terms of numbers as you might initially think, but also in personal goals that I would like to set to really challenge myself. So, I thought I would share all of my goals for 2018 with you, and maybe then, I might actually stick to them!
Tracking your analytics, subscribers and followers can really help you visualise your growth, and I can understand why smaller creators, such as myself, sometimes concentrate on these things a little too much. I’m not going to sit here and say I don’t take these figures into account – I totally do. It can be highly satisfying knowing X-amount of people enjoy your videos enough to subscribe, or your tweets have reached X-amount of people.
At the end of the day, you won’t see growth if you aren’t putting in the effort in the first place, but for the past few months since properly starting up my YouTube channel and blog again, I have been pouring my heart and soul into the creation of my content, and my progress is truly starting to show. Albeit small, but it really does motivate me to carry on this way throughout 2018 and really push myself above and beyond what I already have.
So, in terms of numbers, my goals for 2018 are:
- 1,000 subscribers on my Youtube channel
- 10,000 total views on my YouTube channel
- 5,000 followers on Twitter
I would also like to grow my Facebook page and other social media platforms, but I would like to focus on these three goals in particular.
On the other hand, there are certain goals you can set yourself that, not only help you achieve your number orientated goals, but they can really put your content creation skills to the test. They can help you grow in a creative sense, and therefore help you to improve the quality of your content. Every video I make, I can really see how far I have come in the few short months of creating travel videos and it makes me super proud of myself. Both my technical skill in terms of editing, and my presence in front of the camera have both improved since I first started making my Travel videos, and they are both things that I would like to continue to improve on in 2018.
My creative goals for 2018 are:
- Uploading 2 videos a week
- Publishing a blog post every single week
- Trying new things such as a short snippet of video for Facebook or a Pinterest image for my blogposts
My ultimate goal of 2018 is most definitely having the opportunity to have a sponsored post or video. This will definitely be something I will actively be seeking out in the New Year. I know I shouldn’t be waiting for companies to approach me, as that may never happen. I am determined that I will make my own opportunities, and I will certainly be putting in as much effort as possible to achieve these goals – you can’t just sit back and wait for them to happen.
Understanding just how you are going to reach these goals is a huge part of the process, and consistency with a lot of things really is the key to success (and we all know how much I’ve sucked at consistency in the past). This year, I have realised that YouTube and blogging really are my passions in life. They make me feel accomplished and proud of myself – two things I wasn’t at the start of 2017.
