Is it worth the hype? theBalm Mary Lou Manizer

It’s no secret that theBalm’s Mary Lou Manizer is one of best highlighters on the market. It is constantly raved about on Youtube, Instagram, you name it, someone’s talked about it at least once. Because of it’s cult status, it had been on my wish list for a long time, so when I saw it discounted in the Black Friday sales last year, I just had to get my hands on it.

As I said above, I purchased this a fair few months ago which means I have had plenty of time to really put it to the test. I’m not going to beat around the bush here and wait until the end to tell you if it was worth it or not, because from this review, my opinion will be evident. Basically, this is my absolutely holy grail highlighter.
Before I purchased Mary Lou, I had tried a sample of Cindy Lou and I hated it. I really didn’t see what all the hype would be about. I just thought, surely, they would be the same formulation? The answer is no.
As soon as I watched it on my hand, I knew this would be my new obsession. I’m not usually one for golden highlighters, but the colour of it, on my skin tone is quite a neutral one. The great thing about Mary Lou is that it can be applied more sheer for a natural sheen, or can be built up to really give you that stunning glow we see on Instagram.
Some days I have to refrain myself from covering myself head to toe in it – not that it would look out of place, I’d probably look the best I ever have, as some days I get a little too happy with my brush and it ends up on every inch of my face some how…
However, the glitter and shimmer in it is so fine that you would never get that chunky, odd disco ball effect that I find I get with some highlighters (MAC Soft & Gentle for example). Due to its fine shimmers, I think it would be great on textured skin, as I find it never clings to any of my dry patches.
The packaging is perfect and I love the retro design. The mirror is the best compact I own and is perfect for travel. I have even started taking it out and about with me daily as my on-the-go mirror. The compact clips tightly shut and is lovely and sturdy too.
Basically, if you haven’t already jumped on this bandwagon and gotten yourself a Mary Lou Manizer, then you need to, as it is most certainly worth the hype!
