October was a busy month for me. I got back into my final year at university, I was collecting items for a makeup swap with the lovely Laura (Serenitys Door), and it was also my boyfriend Alex’s birthday at the end of the month which we had a trip to Liverpool for.
This has meant I have collected a number of items this month that I wish to show you. So this post will basically be a collective haul of this month’s purchases. (NOTE FOR LAURA: Caution – this post contains spoilers! Read at your own risk!)
This first product is something I’ve been after for a while – The I ♥ Makeup Goddess of Love highlighter. This was £4.99 from Superdrug. I ♥ Makeup is the sister brand of Makeup Revolution and I’d heard great things about this online. Now I love the colour of this, but I find the powder is pressed too hard for there to be much pigmentation. Good for a subtle highlight, but building up this product feels tedious, so I would much rather use something else. But if you’re going for a natural look, this is good.
If you’ve read my blog before, or seem some of my videos on Youtube, you’ll know that I love trying the makeup in Primark, because some of it is actually quite good! This blusher is something I’d never seen in there before, so I picked the nicest shade via the sticker on the front (there were no testers) and bought it on a whim. When I opened it I didn’t expect it to be as dark as it is, but I was happy with the shade. I love colours like this as they look very natural on my (already red) cheeks. This does need a light hand, as it’s surprisingly pigmented. For £2.50 you get a big pan too!
The last product of my first little shopping spree are these Katy Perry lashes. They came in a set of two for around £2 and I haven’t actually tried any of them yet, so I just had to (for anyone that doesn’t know me, I just love Katy Perry). The only negative to these, and it was something I didn’t realise when I picked these up, is that they are self-adhesive. I’ve tried to stick them on like that but they just ping off. The good thing is you can remove the pre-glued glue and add your own but the band is very thin which makes it hard (for someone like me that doesn’t wear lashes often).
On my mission to collect makeup product from brands not available in the US, I accidentally bought myself these from Soap and Glory. Having never having tried Soap and Glory cosmetics, I thought I should before I send them to Laura. So I picked up the Archery brow duo and the Supercat liner. I am in love with both! The Archery is now my everyday eyebrow product. It just gives me a natural looking brow and makes them look neat and tidy. I do wish that they did it in a darker colour though, as the pencil part just isn’t dark enough, and makes my brows look ashy.
The Supercat liner is one of the many felt tip liners I’ve tried in the past couple of months that have made me change my mind on them as a product. The nib is the perfect size, the product is pigmented enough, and it rarely comes out patchy. It is a glossy finish however, which I haven’t tried before, and was hard to get used to at first, but with certain eye looks I actually quite like. Not my go to everyday liner though, I still prefer the matte look.
This is the Bourjois Bronzing Primer and is a product that’s been on my wish list for a while. I finally decided to get this as it was on offer in Superdrug. It’s a multipurpose product which can be used under foundation either all over the face or in certain areas that you want to look bronzed, or on top of foundation as a cream bronzer. A lot of people as it’s a dupe for the Soleil Tan de Chanel.
The next product is the Sleek Au Naturel palette. This was another deal at Superdrug, and I just picked this without really looking at it, as I love neutral shades so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. These shades are darker then I expected, but I am in love! I used this for the first time the other night, so I’ll be sure to write a review – look out for that in the coming weeks.
These MUA Luxe Velvet lip lacquers were also things I had to try before I sent one to Laura! I already had one from when they were first launched in the shade Funk, and I hated it! The formulation was so dry and crumbly. But I’ve heard so many good things about these from my friends and on the internet, I thought it was about time to try these out again. And I have to say, I’m in love! They must have reformulated these as they aren’t as drying as before, and the application is so much easier. I got them in the shades Reckless (red) and Tranquility (nude).
I picked up the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25h foundation on a whim, as it was only £4.98 in Asda. I’ve been trying a lot more foundations lately, as I was stuck on Maybelline. I was also too scared to try other brands as I didn’t know my shade. I’m now a lot better at finding my shade (soft beige in Rimmel). I won’t go into too much deatail about how it wore, as I’ll be writing a review on this soon.
The last product I picked up this month was the Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Smokey Eyes mascara. I’ve had a number of these in different variations in the past, and I have to say, it was my favourite drugstore mascara. I managed to get this for about £2 or £3 from B&M, which was hard to pass up at such a bargain price!
This month I also bought a few items of clothing, DVDs, homeware and a number of things from Lush (post coming soon), but thought this post would be too long if I included everything. If you want me to include everything I bought in the next post then let me know in the comments below.
